“Armenia is not just a dot on the map; it is a strategic move in the global technology game.”

These words by Yervant Zorian, President of Synopsys Armenia, perfectly capture the transformation our country has undergone over the past two decades. When global tech giant Synopsys Inc. established its R&D center in Armenia back in 2004, few could have imagined it would become a driving force behind our technological transformation.

Today, Synopsys not only develops cutting-edge solutions but also nurtures the mindset that fuels innovation. Through partnerships with leading universities alone, more than 2,600 microelectronics specialists have been trained-proof that multinational corporations can become an integral part of a country’s future.

Armenia: a new technological powerhouse

Once known to the world primarily for its cultural heritage, today Armenia speaks the language of technology. In recent years, our country has emerged as one of the fastest-growing innovation hubs in the region:

  • In 2025, Armenia climbed three spots in the Global Startup Ecosystem Index, reaching 54th place.
  • Yerevan improved its ranking by 19 positions, joining the list of the fastest-growing tech cities worldwide.
  • Armenia’s startup ecosystem showed a 22.8% growth rate, placing the country among the global Top 40 in the software & data sector.

These numbers are more than just statistics; they reflect years of consistent effort, the cultivation of human potential and an innovation-driven mindset.

Education: the foundation of success

The backbone of Armenia’s tech transformation is its education system - from schools to universities. This is where tomorrow’s engineers, researchers and startup founders are shaped.

  • "TUMO" center for creative technologies - A one-of-a-kind educational model where more than 20,000 teenagers choose their own learning paths in animation, robotics, programming, game development and more. Today, TUMO operates not only in Yerevan but also in Paris, Berlin, Tokyo, Beirut and other cities.
  • "Armath" engineering laboratories - Functioning in over 652 schools, these labs provide hands-on training in programming, robotics, microelectronics, and 3D modeling for around 16,000 students. Over the past decade, the initiative has attracted more than $24 million in investment.
  • "AI Generation" - Armenia’s first public education program focused on artificial intelligence. Launched in 2023 and presented at UNESCO, it enables schoolchildren to explore neural networks, machine learning and data science.
  • "National engineering laboratories" (ANEL) – With more than 30 laboratories, ANEL provides a platform where students combine academic knowledge with practical experience, working directly with advanced technologies.
