PMI Science establishes new laboratory in Armenia

On July 9, Gohar Abajyan, CEO of Enterprise Armenia, met with Luca Rossi, Vice President of Technology and Research at Philip Morris International (PMI), to discuss the company’s growing engagement in Armenia and plans to expand Research & Development center with the establishment of new laboratories in Engineering City.

The proposed R&D initiative, planned within the Business Accelerator building at Engineering City, aims to contribute to Armenia’s technological and scientific advancement. With a focus on electronics, material science, aerosol research, and prototype development, the center would serve as a platform for innovation and collaboration with Armenian talent and institutions.

“This initiative represents more than a facility: it is a signal of confidence in Armenia’s innovation potential,” said Gohar Abajyan. “We highly value PMI’s long-standing investment in Armenia and welcome their plans to expand into R&D. Enterprise Armenia is fully committed to supporting this initiative expand - from facilitation to long-term reinvestment.”

The meeting also covered specific areas of government support that Enterprise Armenia can offer, including streamlined facilitation, regulatory guidance, government incentives and integration with Armenia’s wider innovation ecosystem.
