AMD Explores Expansion Opportunities in Armenia

One of the world’s leading technology companies, AMD, is currently in Armenia to evaluate the country’s engineering potential as part of its plans for future expansion.
AMD began operations in Armenia in 2019 and, since 2022, has been a beneficiary of Enterprise Armenia’s aftercare services. As the agency supports not only the initial investment phase but also guides companies through expansion, a site visit was organized for the AMD delegation led by Vice President Dan Gibbons to explore mathematical and engineering laboratories affiliated with local universities.
Presenting Armenia’s investment opportunities and competitive advantages in science, education, and technology, Gohar Abajyan, CEO of Enterprise Armenia, emphasized the government's commitment to creating an investment environment where global companies can envision not only investing but also staying, growing, and scaling: “The development of high-tech and research capacities is a strategic priority for Armenia. This is evident in government support programs, free economic zones, the Engineering City, growing microelectronics infrastructure, over 8,200 STEM graduates annually, a skilled and competitive workforce, and, of course, the comprehensive investment support and facilitation provided by Enterprise Armenia.”
Speaking about the decision to establish a presence in Armenia, Dan Gibbons highlighted that the country's tech talent, the success stories of existing companies, and the diversity of engineering teams played a major role in opening an office here: “Our initial approach has been fully justified. Our Armenian team has demonstrated strong work ethic, exceptional precision, and high quality in software development-becoming a benchmark for others. Our employees are our most valuable asset, and we are ready to invest long-term. The opportunity to collaborate with universities, both as a talent source and as a platform for joint educational programs, is another significant advantage. And of course, we deeply value the Armenian government’s consistent support and efforts to stimulate the tech sector.”
AMD’s presence and active interest reflect not only a successful investment journey but also Armenia’s growing role as a reliable long-term partner in the global tech ecosystem. The combination of engineering readiness, inclusive education, and purposeful government policy has created an environment where leading companies can confidently plan their future.
